Earlier today, PC World reportable that Sony would charge $50 for a configuration option called “Fresh Start,” which would not allow the bloatware. When contacted by Gadget Lab, a representative for Sony said that the company today removed that charge.
Responding to a tidal gesture of outrage, Sony has plan to remove the charge of $50 for the pre-installed applications — often derided as “bloatware” or “craplets” — from its high-end TZ-series notebooks.
“There wont be any charge for Fresh Start,” said the spokesman.
Like whatever notebook manufacturers, Sony preloads its notebooks with anti-virus, anti-spyware and other multipurpose software. Problems happen when such applications swiftly expire, offer restricted functionality, or result in poor performance–or when there is exclusive so such of it that it cannot be easily removed.
Fresh Start willbe a no-cost choice on Sony’s slick subnotebooks, but exclusive for those who opt for Windows Vista Business Edition, a $100 upgrade. Most sites covering the $50 Fresh Start charges were incensed at the idea of being charged to leave malfunctioning and unwanted software off— and Sony has responded with a pace unusual for the international giant.
